Project: Bespoke project to prep and install over 120 tons of red tarmac
Duration: 4 day
We are Tarmac Driveway Contractors covering Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland. We specialise in traditional tarmac driveways but every now and then something a bit special comes along!
In this case, we are talking about preparing 840m2 to new levels, falls and ensuring proper run offs and then laying 120 tons of beautiful red tarmac. Here’s what we did:
- Day 1 consisted of preparing the 840m2 area to new levels and falls ensuring all run off worked correctly, we had two bobcats running, 1 planing off existing red tar that was looking in a bad way and the other loading and leveling type-1 hardcore.
- Day 2 saw the arrival of the Super 800 to lay the base course and with its smaller size we managed to access the tighter areas with no problems, we laid 60 tonnes of 20mm base course to a depth of 75mm. We then sprayed the newly planed out area with hot k.1.40 ensuring the new SMA bonded well to the existing base.
- Day 3 was a 4:30am start for the crew to get down to Morpeth and have all the machines ready and raring to go for the first load of red SMA arriving at 6am. The first 20 ton of Red 10mm SMA saw us completed 4 runs in a tight area all with hot joints, then the second load completed the courtyard and driveway.
- Day 4 Storm Babet hit! The 6am load was pushed back to 10am as we saw a break in the weather coming. 2 runs with a hot joint completed the project.
Our client was delighted with the finish and Jobling Purser who supplied the material came out to see us in action and they were also delighted.
